PROBATION
In Arizona, probation is a shared responsibility between counties and the state. Probation officers are employees of the statewide judiciary and report to the presiding judge, but by state law, county boards of supervisors set their salaries based on the court’s recommendation. While the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts manages probation funding and requests state appropriations as needed, counties play a key role in administering local operations.
